On June 16, 2025, Qin Changwei, secretary-general of the Secretariat of the National Commission of the People's Republic of China for UNESCO, visited Nanjing University. Tan Tieniu, Chair of NJU CPC Council and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, met with Qin Changwei and his delegation.

Tan Tieniu stated that NJU has always placed great importance on cooperation with UNESCO. The university has maintained close and practical communication with the National Commission of UNESCO in China over the years, achieving numerous results in areas such as establishment of UNESCO chair, talent cultivation, and cultural exchange. He hopes to further expand strategic cooperation, leveraging NJU's strengths, particularly in frontier fields like artificial intelligence research, to explore new models of high-level international cooperation. NJU will actively participate in UNESCO's global projects, contributing more significantly to global education and cultural exchange development.
Qin Changwei highly commended NJU's sense of responsibility in serving national strategies and telling China's story. He emphasized that UNESCO is an important platform for promoting global development and cultural exchange, with universities being indispensable forces. The National Commission will continue to support NJU's deeper cooperation with UNESCO, anticipating greater involvement in global topic discussions and humanities governance practices, thereby contributing to the international dissemination of Chinese culture and promoting global cultural diversity.
The two parties engaged in discussions to further deepen international cooperation, jointly promoting cultural exchange and effectively communicating China's story. The meeting was chaired by Chen Yunsong, Deputy Chair of NJU CPC Council. Chen Yunsong pointed out that NJU consistently prioritizes the development of humanities and social sciences as a strategic focus, actively serving the national cultural development strategy, and contributing intellectual resources to telling China's story and promoting Chinese culture globally.

Participants from both sides conducted in-depth discussions on topics such as UNESCO chair applications, collaboration on publishing World Heritage, talent cultivation for international organizations, and international exchanges for young scholars, reaching multiple consensuses.
Officials from the Scientific and Cultural Affairs Division of the Secretariat of the National Commission of the People's Republic of China for UNESCO, along with leaders of relevant departments and Schools of NJU, attended the meeting.
