NJU holds meeting to initiate the "15th Five-Year Plan" compilation

On July 8, the meeting for initiating the compilation of Nanjing University's "15th Five-Year Plan" was convened on Xianlin Campus. Tan Tieniu, Chair of NJU CPC Council and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), attended the meeting and delivered the concluding speech. Tan Zhemin, President of NJU and Academician of the CAS, presided over the meeting.

Tan Tieniu stated that this year marks the strategic planning phase for the "15th Five-Year Plan" and is also the final sprint year of the first cycle of NJU's "Forging Ahead Initiative". NJU's 12th Party Congress has outlined a comprehensive blueprint for building a world-class university with Chinese characteristics in the new era, providing a task list, roadmap, and timeline. It also set clear requirements for scientifically planning the development of NJU's "15th Five-Year Plan" and continuously improving the implementation of the "Forging Ahead Initiative".

Tan Tieniu proposed four key requirements for better promoting the compilation and implementation of the plan: deeply understand the significance of the compilation of the "15th Five-Year Plan"; fully recognize the issues and shortcomings encountered during the compilation and implementation of the "14th Five-Year Plan"; ensure high-quality compilation of NJU's "15th Five-Year Plan”; strengthen organizational leadership to provide solid support for the high-quality development of the "15th Five-Year Plan". He emphasized that scientifically planning and compilating the "15th Five-Year Plan" is not only a major task for the Party and the nation but also a significant undertaking for NJU. He expressed hope that the entire NJU community would maintain high standards and ensure high quality in the compilation of the "15th Five-Year Plan", contributing to the accelerated construction of a world-class university with Chinese characteristics and comprehensively promoting the construction of a strong nation and national rejuvenation with Chinese modernization.

Tan Zhemin pointed out that scientifically compilating the "15th Five-Year Plan" is of great importance and far-reaching impact, as it pertains to NJU's development direction, strategic priorities, and enhancement of core competitiveness over the next five years and beyond. He stressed the need for scientific and high-quality planning, as well as strengthened coordination and integration.

Tan Zhemin outlined several key aspects for successfully compilating the "15th Five-Year Plan": fully understand the current state of colleges and disciplines, analyze existing problems and challenges, and clarify future development directions; deepen the integrated development of education, science, and talent, actively serve local economic and social development, and maximize the role of universities in regional development; enhance the construction of a high-level faculty team and effectively improve the results of talent recruitment and cultivation; address issues of educational equity and explore the establishment of a more reasonable and sustainable resource allocation mechanism to build a more balanced higher education system; strengthen international influence, promote the internationalization of disciplines, and enhance global communication capabilities and academic impact. Tan Zhemin emphasized that all units and departments must strengthen collaboration and work diligently to advance the compilation of the "15th Five-Year Plan",  so as to provide strong support for building a world-class university with Chinese characteristics.

Vice President Lu Yanqing reviewed the main content, achievements, and implementation of NJU's "14th Five-Year Plan". He also provided a detailed introduction to the background, specific plans, overall requirements, and deployment arrangements for the compilation of the "15th Five-Year Plan", clarifying the organizational structure, phased tasks, division of responsibilities, and timeline.

Other university leaders, including Liu Miao, Chen Yunsong, Suo Wenbin, Zhou Zhihua, Jiao Ruihua, Li Bin, Wen Yu, Ding Aijun, and Jiang Tian, as well as responsible persons of various departments and colleges, attended the meeting.
