Du Jiangfeng conducts field research at NJU

From July 27 to July 28, Du Jiangfeng, member of the Party Leadership Group and Vice Minister of Education, visited Nanjing University to conduct field research and chaired a symposium on strengthening the cultivation of urgently needed high-level talents. Tan Zhemin, President of NJU and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, participated in the symposium.

Du Jiangfeng pointed out that the symposium focused on the implementation progress of the special project for cultivating high-level talents urgently needed by the nation, exchanging ideas, summarizing experiences, analyzing problems, and consolidating responsibilities, with the aim of ensuring effective talent cultivation. He hoped that all relevant universities would actively summarize their experience in the "special project of urgent need", and proposed specific requirements for accelerating the cultivation of national strategic talents and urgently needed high-level talents. Du Jiangfeng emphasized that accelerating the cultivation of urgently needed high-level talents is a major mission and honorable responsibility. He expected the participating universities to take this symposium as an opportunity to further refine typical practices, transform experiences into long-term mechanisms promoting industry-education integration in talent cultivation, continuously improve the quality of talent cultivation, and better serve national strategies and industrial development.

Tan Zhemin extended a warm welcome to Du Jiangfeng and his delegation, and expressed sincere gratitude to the Ministry of Education, the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education, and brother universities for their long-term care and support for NJU's development. He pointed out that the "Double First-Class" initiative is a major strategy and an important means to build a strong nation in education. It is NJU's aspiration and mission to share the destiny with the nation and seek national prosperity and pursuing progress in science and education. He briefly introduced NJU's recent achievements in accelerating the "Double First-Class" construction. NJU has dedicatied itself to cultivating urgently needed high-level talents for the nation, actively benchmarking international standards, enhancing international influence, deepening reforms in top-notch innovative talent cultivation, and contributing NJU's strength to serving national strategic needs.

During the exchange session, Zhou Zhihua, Vice President of NJU, reported on the reform and development of the cultivation of high-level and urgently needed talents at NJU. Chen Fadi, President of Nanjing Agricultural University; Hu Zhibin, President of Nanjing Medical University; Wu Qihui, Vice President of Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics reported separately on their work and experience.

Du Jiangfeng visited the School of Computer Science at NJU and listened to reports on talent cultivation in key software and artificial intelligence, the joint talent cultivation work of the NJU-China Mobile Joint Research Institute, and the construction of the School's two advantageous disciplines. At the School of Earth Sciences and Engineering and the School of History, Du Jiangfeng investigated the situation of the "Double First-Class" Discipline construction and cultivation of postgraduate students in critical mineral fields, as well as the cultivation of urgently needed talents in the field of archaeology.

Du Jiangfeng and his delegation also visited the History Museum of NJU, gaining an in-depth understanding of NJU's 123-year history and its achievements in establishing "the unique Nanjing University" rooted in Chinese soil.

Wu Gang, Director of the Department of Degree Management and Postgraduate Education of the Ministry of Education, and Yang Shubing, Deputy Director of Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education, accompanied the field research.
