Tan Zhemin conducts field research on Pukou Campus

On August 26, Tan Zhemin, President of Nanjing University and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences visited Pukou Campus to inspect the campus construction and renovation plans as well as preparations for the new semester.

At Yuhui Building, Tan Zhemin listened to reports on the renovation of the building and the planned construction of the Chemical Engineering Research Building. He emphasized that the two buildings are important carriers for the future development of NJU's research facilities sharing service platform and chemical engineering discipline. He stressed the need to seize the opportunity of strategic cooperation with Jiangbei New Area, and strive to build a first-class research facilities sharing service platform and School of Chemical Engineering.

At the site selection for the Pharmaceutical Research Building and other buildings, Tan Zhemin examined the relevant planning and design. He pointed out that the Pharmaceutical Research Building and others are the main bodies and new growth poles for the future development of relevant disciplines at NJU. It is necessary to seize the important opportunities presented by the construction and operation of Nanjing North Station and subway planning, integrate the design with surrounding areas including the campus gate, plan disciplinary development, cultivate new disciplines and directions, increase talent recruitment, and build and utilize the new research buildings well.

In the Xiping Teaching Area, Tan Zhemin inspected the overall regional planning and educational conditions of the School of Lifelong Education and listened to a report on its operations. He pointed out that the Pukou Teaching Area of the School of Lifelong Education should utilize existing facilities by fully leverage its effectiveness, actively undertake training projects related to Jiangbei New Area, introduce more diverse projects, and provide stronger support for the university's educational development.

Tan Zhemin also inspected teaching buildings, No.12 Student Dormitory Building, No. 15 Canteen, Siyuan Library, Campus 110 Emergency Response Center, and other facilities to understand the use and renovation of teaching buildings, student dormitory occupancy rates and cleaning work, cafeteria dining numbers and food quality, daily library visitor numbers and book lending, campus security and surveillance points, and other conditions. He expressed gratitude to the staff of various units and hoped that each unit would combine specific situations to provide good service and support for faculty and students' research, study, and life, creating a Pukou campus that is more satisfying to faculty and students.

University leaders Lu Yanqing, Suo Wenbin, Li Bin, and responsible persons from relevant departments accompanied the inspection.
