NJU holds work arrangement meeting for new semester

On August 28, Nanjing University held a work arrangement meeting for the new semester. Tan Tieniu, Chair of NJU CPC Council adn Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and Tan Zhemin, President of JU and Academician of the CAS, made comprehensive arrangements for the Party Committee and administrative work for the new semester.

Tan Tieniu extended sincere greetings to everyone for the new semester. He pointed out that in the semester just passed, through the joint efforts of all faculty, staff, and students, NJU's various educational undertakings had steadily advanced with remarkable results. In particular, the successful convening of the university's 12th Party Congress drew a new development blueprint for the university's endeavors and pointed out a new direction forward. In the coming period, all Party members, faculty, staff and students should deeply understand the important significance of the Party Congress, thoroughly implement the decisions and deployments made by the Party Congress, and fully promote the high-quality development of all university undertakings. Tan Tieniu emphasized that this semester is both the beginning period for studying and implementing the spirit of the university's 12th Party Congress and the final period for implementing the "14th Five-Year Plan" and the first phase of the "Forging Ahead Initiative." At the same time, the Suzhou campus will be put into service, making the work this semester tight in time, heavy in tasks, and high in requirements. Tan Tieniu made specific arrangements for carefully carrying out various Party building tasks in the new semester, comprehensively strengthening Party leadership, and guiding the university's high-quality development with high-quality Party building.

Tan Tieniu called on everyone to rally closely around the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at the core, to deeply study and implement the spirit of the 20th Party Congress and the Second and Third Plenums of the 20th Central Committee, as well as the upcoming Fourth Plenum, to fully implement the spirit of the National Education Conference and the decisions and deployments of the university's 12th Party Congress, to advance with a proactive attitude of seizing the day and tenacious struggle, and to take practical actions to overcome difficulties and work diligently, striding toward the goal of building Nanjing University into a world-class university with Chinese characteristics, and making new and greater contributions to accelerating the construction of a leading country in education and comprehensively advancing the building of a strong country and the great cause of national rejuvenation through Chinese modernization.

Tan Zhemin delivered the "2025 Fall Semester Work Arrangement Meeting Report." In light of new situations and requirements, he pointed out that the university's development faces intense competition, numerous challenges, and heavy tasks. Efforts should be made at all levels—university, college, discipline, faculty, and student—to anchor the goal of "breakthrough", explore an efficient path of intensive development, strengthen thinking and planning while deepening implementation, and push existing work to new heights through thinking and planning, so as to better serve the key deployments of building a strong country in education, science and technology, and talent with the results of the university's high-quality development. 

Tan Zhemin systematically reviewed the highlights and significant achievements of the university's work in the first half of this year, emphasizing that in the second half of the year, efforts should continue to focus on discipline layout, talent teams, talent cultivation, organized scientific research, humanities and social sciences construction, international education, multi-campus construction, and management services. Tan Zhemin emphasized that all faculty, staff, and students of NJU should bravely shoulder their mission, unite their hearts and efforts, work diligently, overcome difficulties, and fully promote new breakthroughs in the construction of "the unique Nanjing University."

The meeting was chaired by Chen Yunsong, Deputy Party Secretary of the university. Also in attendance were members of the university's Party and administrative leadership team, members of the university Party committee and disciplinary inspection commission, and other university committees; heads of various democratic parties; chairs of trade union branches; representatives from all administrative departments; representatives of retired staff; faculty representatives; directors of the Student Affairs Office and counsellors; and student representatives.
