Tan Tieniu welcomes new graduate students to NJU

On September 5, the four campuses of Nanjing University at Xianlin, Gulou, Pukou, and Suzhou were filled with a warm and enthusiastic atmosphere. A total number of 9,222 graduate students of the class of 2025 were about to arrive to formally begin their new academic journey.

Tan Tieniu, Chair of NJU CPC Council and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences visited the reception stations, college registration points, and student dormitories at the Xianlin Campus to meet new students and their parents, and to inspect the welcoming work on site.

"Hello, new students!" "Nanjing University welcomes you!" The welcome banners at the south gate of the Xianlin Campus marked the beginning of a brand new journey. Tan Tieniu chatted cordially with new students and parents, inquiring about their experiences and impressions of arriving at NJU.

At the main reception station, electronic screens displayed real-time updates on the registration progress and related data for the class of 2025 graduate students. Volunteers provided refreshing drinks and toiletry kits to new students and parents who came to inquire, patiently answering questions and giving directions. Tan Tieniu praised the volunteers for their hard work, hoping they would maintain their enthusiastic attitude, showcase the style of NJU students, and help newcomers understand the university. He carefully reviewed the "Information Technology Service Guide," learned about the shuttle bus scheduling details, and offered suggestions for improving related work procedures.

Police officers from Qixia Public Security Branch were stationed at the reception site to safeguard the welcoming activities. Tan Tieniu sincerely thanked them for their important contributions to creating a safe, stable, secure, and peaceful campus environment. He pointed out that with the large flow of people during the school opening season, it is important to both guard the campus gates and better showcase the university's image and culture.

At the School of Electronic Science and Engineering, 2025 doctoral students Shi Junqi and Cong Wuyang showed Tan Tieniu an honorary banner. They had rescued an injured man in a traffic accident on Yuanhua Road on June 27 this year. Tan Tieniu highly praised the two students for their noble deed and encouraged them to continue upholding the spirit of bravery and righteousness. The School set up a rest area for parents, while new students were queuing to complete registration procedures. Tan Tieniu joined the queue and engaged with new students about their study plans and university life. He introduced the new students and parents to NJU's history, campus construction, and other basic information, encouraging students to cherish their valuable learning time and reassuring parents that their children would be well taken care of at NJU.

The hall of the School of Foreign Studies expressed the beauty and romance of love in seven languages. Tan Tieniu expressed his appreciation to the student volunteers responsible for the welcoming work, instructing them to further refine their work: "We should provide new students with detailed guidance and assistance as much as possible, allowing them to feel the warmth and friendliness of their new family."

The School of Liberal Arts arranged intangible cultural heritage craft experiences for new students. Students could choose their favorite patterns to make bookmarks and write down their expectations for the future. Seeing a new student presenting a maple leaf bookmark she had just completed, Tan Tieniu remarked, "Autumn is the season of harvest. May you achieve academic success at NJU through hard work."

At No. 12 and No.17 Dormitory Buildings, Tan Tieniu inspected the doors, windows, furniture, laundry rooms, and hot water facilities, asking new students and parents for their opinions on the accommodations, and provided specific suggestions for further optimization and improvement. He greeted and thanked the dormitory management staff, hoping they would love the school as their home and the students as their children, giving students more care and helping them adapt smoothly to their new environment and life.

Vice President Zhou Zhihua, Party Committee Member, Assistant President, and Director of the University Office Li Bin, along with other relevant department heads, accompanied the inspection.

On the same day, Liu Miao, Vice Chair of NJU CPC Council and Secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission, visited Pukou Campus, where he cordially conversed with newly arrived students and parents, inquiring about their travel arrangements and academic plans. He also greeted the faculty members and student volunteers responsible for welcoming activities at various colleges, acknowledging their hard work and encouraging the team to continuously optimize services so that new students and parents could truly feel the warmth and care of NJU. Additionally, Liu Miao examined the campus construction and renovation plans, and visited the Siyuan Library, Security Department, student apartments, and student canteens, expressing his appreciation and gratitude to the staff of each unit. He hoped that all units would provide solid support for faculty and students' research, learning, and living based on their actual conditions, and jointly promote the development of Pukou Campus into a more satisfactory environment for faculty and students.

Zhou Zhihua visited Pukou Campus, meeting with faculty, staff, and volunteers busy on the front lines of welcoming new students, and warmly greeting new students and parents. He highly commended the volunteers for their dedicated service, learned in detail about the real-time registration of new students and shuttle bus operations, and listened to introductions about the distinctive welcoming activities of various colleges. Zhou Zhihua reminded the welcoming staff to be mindful of heat prevention while on duty and encouraged new students to cherish their time and study diligently. He also inspected the cafeteria operations, emphasizing the importance of ensuring campus safety and service quality to create a safe and comfortable learning and living environment for students.

Assistant President and Executive Deputy Director of Suzhou Campus Administrative Committee Jiang Tian visited various college registration points and dormitories on Suzhou Campus, engaging in cordial conversations with new students and volunteers. He inquired in detail about the students' impressions of entering the university and their future plans, and encouraged everyone to quickly integrate into the new environment, focus on academics, and be brave in exploration.
