Recently, the Ministry of Education announced the list of approved teams for the third batch of the " Huang Danian-style Teacher Teams among National Universities" and the shortlist for the fourth batch. Nanjing University's Foreign Languages and Literature Teacher Team has been approved as an recipient of this national honorary-title in the third batch, and the Water Pollution Control Industry-Education Integration Science and Education Team has been shortlisted for the fourth batch.
Foreign Languages and Literature Teaching Team
The Foreign Languages and Literature Teacher Team at NJU is led by Wang Shouren, a National Prestigious Teacher a senior professor of humanities and social sciences at NJU. The team promotes and practices the spirit of educators, embracing their ideals, beliefs, moral integrity, educational wisdom, diligent attitude, benevolent heart, and profound pursuit of teaching. They are committed to virtue and self-cultivation, professionalism in education, innovation, and serving the nation, supporting high-quality teaching with high-level research. The team adheres to the talent training philosophy of "value leadership, integration of Chinese and foreign, unity of learning and application, pursuit of excellence," highlighting the value leadership in foreign language education and forming an outstanding foreign language talent training mechanism centered on "cross-cultural capability" and focused on "telling China's story well." Following the new arts and sciences integration and innovation philosophy, the team meets the national demand for key foreign-related fields, offers integrated courses, expands practical education paths, and cultivates versatile foreign-related talents with strong foreign language skills, understanding of international rules, and expertise in foreign-related practices. The team is dedicated to building an independent knowledge system for Chinese-characteristic foreign language disciplines, actively conducts original research in foreign languages and literature, undertakes numerous major national and local research projects, and fully leverages the advantages of the foreign language discipline to actively serve the national strategic needs and regional economic and social development. The team has received several honors, including the first prize in national teaching achievements and the outstanding scientific research achievement award in higher education.
Water Pollution Control Industry-Education Integration Science and Education Team
Led by Professor Ren Hongqiang, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering from the School of Environmental Science, the Water Pollution Control Industry-Education Integration Science and Education Team at Nanjing University thoroughly implements national educational policies, exploring and innovating a distinctive "grounded and innovative" talent cultivation system for the environmental field, nurturing a group of leaders who are brave in taking responsibilities and skilled in innovation for the national ecological civilization construction. The team has built a "platform empowerment - education feedback - industry outreach" scientific innovation ecosystem, continuously pushing forward breakthroughs in basic theories and forefront technological innovations in the field of water pollution control. The team has developed a new social service system driven by mechanisms, supported by technology, and guided by think tanks, making key contributions to national/regional water pollution control and green industry innovation. Its achievements have been included in the National Administration for Market Regulation's promotional cases for the ten-year anniversary of the "Belt and Road" initiative, showing significant demonstrative effects. The team has received several accolades, including the National Outstanding Engineer Team Award and the second prize in national teaching achievements.
It is noted that to implement the spirit of the important instructions by President Xi Jinping on the advanced deeds of Huang Danian, the Ministry of Education recognized the first batch of "Huang Danian-style Teacher Teams among National Universities" in 2018, with NJU’s Remote Sensing for National Territory and Ecological Security Teaching Team (led by Professor Li Manchun) being selected. On the eve of Teachers' Day in 2021, President Xi Jinping replied to representatives of the teams, affirming their achievements and expressing earnest expectations. In 2022, NJU's Interdisciplinary Team of Chemistry and Biology (led by Academician Guo Zijian) was selected for the second batch. In 2023, NJU's Foreign Languages and Literature Teacher Team (led by Professor Wang Shouren) was shortlisted for the third batch.
NJU will continue to thoroughly study and implement the spirit of President Xi Jinping's important reply to the representatives of the recognized teams.
