On September 10, Nanjing University held the Celebration for the 41st Teachers' Day on Xianlin Campus. Tan Tieniu, Chair of NJU CPC Council and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), attended the meeting and delivered a speech.
Tan Tieniu extended greetings to all faculty and staff of NJU, and expressed sincere gratitude and high respect to the retired colleagues and former leaders who made important contributions to the development of the university. He pointed out that in recent years, NJU has thoroughly studied and implemented President Xi Jinping's important discussions on education and the spirit of his reply to NJU's young scholars returned after studying abroad, focusing on vigorously promoting the spirit of educators, striving to build a high-quality professional teacher team with noble ethics, excellent skills, reasonable structure, and full of vitality. NJU has been committed to instilling the spirit of educators, strengthening the faculty with practical measures, and gathering strength through heartwarming services, achieving important progress.
Tan Tieniu expressed hope that all faculty would transform the spirit of educators into conscious thought and action for cultivating virtue and nurturing talents, striving to be good teachers and great mentors in the new era. He emphasized that teachers are the foundation and source of education. 2025 is the year for comprehensive planning of building a strong education nation, the final year of the "14th Five-Year Plan" and the planning year for the "15th Five-Year Plan." All colleges and departments should further deepen their awareness of "strengthening faculty", adhere to the people-oriented approach, and profoundly recognize the extreme importance of accelerating the construction of a high-level teaching team in the new era. They should use the comprehensive implementation of the "Forging Ahead Initiative" as a starting point to further promote the construction of the teaching team, strengthen faculty development, support teaching and research, and jointly promote the spirit of educators to take root in NJU, laying a solid foundation for accelerating the construction of a world-class university with Chinese characteristics and comprehensively advancing the cause of building a strong country and national rejuvenation through Chinese modernization.
During the Celebration, Tan Tieniu presented awards to individuals who won the "Moral Excellence" award, representatives of "Moral Excellence" teams, recipients of the "Zhao Shiliang Chair Professor" award, representatives of "Outstanding Teaching Teams", representatives of teachers who won the "Excellence in Teaching"award and recipients of the "My Favorite Teacher" award.
The meeting was chaired by Zheng Hairong, Vice President of NJU and Academician of the CAS. Zheng Hairong announced the "Decision on Commending NJU's 'Moral Excellence' for the Year 2025" and the "Decision on Awarding NJU's Excellence in Teaching Award and Other Teaching Awards for the Year 2025."
Lu Xiancai, Vice President of NJU, explained the "Nanjing University Faculty Teaching Ability Enhancement Action" at the event.
Wang Huabing, Professor of the School of Electronic Science and Engineering and recipient of the "Moral Excellence" individual award, shared his experiences and insights on adhering to the principle of cultivating virtue and nurturing talents with his team.
Gao Ziwen, Professor of the School of Liberal Arts and recipient of the "Zhao Shiliang Chair Professor" award, expressed gratitude to students, and shared his acceptance speech.
