Tan Tieniu visits and extends greetings to teacher representatives

On September 10, on the occasion of the 41st Teachers' Day, Tan Tieniu, Chair of NJU CPC Council and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) visited and extended greetings to teacher representatives including academicians, senior professors of humanities and social sciences, young and middle-aged faculty members and scholars returned from overseas at NJU. He conveyed cordial greetings to them and extended holiday wishes and high respect to all teachers of the university, encouraging everyone to continue adhering to the original intention of education, continuously improve teaching abilities, and make new and greater contributions to accelerating the construction of a strong nation in education.

Tan Tieniu visited earth physicist and Academician of the CAS Chen Yong to extend Teachers' Day greetings. Tan Tieniu highly praised Chen's significant contributions to the development of geoscience in China and the university's discipline construction, and admired his enthusiasm for returning to serve the country after studying abroad. Chen Yong showed his father's student registration form at the Central University, one of the predecessors of NJU, and fondly recalled the wonderful experiences of two generations of NJUers, and put forward many constructive suggestions regarding the university's development and discipline construction. Tan Tieniu thanked him for his deep love and concern for NJU, and looked forward to his continued advice and suggestions for the university's development.

At the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences, Tan Tieniu visited Zhou Xiaohong, a senior professor of humanities and social sciences at NJU and the Dean of the Institute of Contemporary China Studies, conveying sincere regards. Zhou Xiaohong gladly introduced the progress of his focused research on "Oral History of New China Figures" and "Oral History of New China's Industrial Construction," and also introduced the oral history work of rural teachers conducted by young faculty members of the school. Tan Tieniu thanked Zhou Xiaohong for his important contributions to the construction of sociology discipline and the development of the school, praising the extraordinary significance of the related research work. He stated that as society develops and Chinese modernization advances, the construction of humanities and social sciences becomes increasingly important, and he looks forward that Professor Zhou  would continue to make new achievements in promoting the development of humanities and social sciences research and better serving national needs.

At the School of Information Management, Tan Tieniu extended holiday greetings to Sun Jianjun, the former Dean of the School of Information Management and the Director of the Data Intelligence and Interdisciplinary Innovation Laboratory. Tan Tieniu highly commended the active role of the Laboratory led by Sun Jianjun in serving major national needs and implementing various national tasks, thanked him for his strong support of the university's work, and gained in-depth understanding of the latest progress in interdisciplinary exploration and laboratory construction. Sun Jianjun stated that he would take major national strategic needs as the starting point, use digital intelligence empowerment and interdisciplinary innovation as means, and make every effort to promote the high-quality development of philosophy and social sciences.

Subsequently, Tan Tieniu extended greetings to Professor Lei Lili, Deputy Dean of the School of Atmospheric Sciences, and Associate Professor Huang Xiaoqiang of the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, extending holiday wishes to them. Tan Tieniu highly affirmed the aspirations and achievements of these two representatives of young scholars who returned from studying abroad in scaling scientific research heights. After learning in detail about the scholars' working environment and recent living conditions, Tan Tieniu stated that NJU is a suitable place for academic pursuits, and the university has always been committed to creating a better working and living environment for young teachers. Young scholars who have returned from studying abroad are a group that President Xi Jinping has particularly high hopes for, and they should accelerate the construction of a strong education nation and a strong science and technology nation with higher standards and stricter requirements. He encouraged young scholars that each era gives young people different tasks, but everyone has a common goal, which is to contribute wisdom and strength to the building of a strong country and the great rejuvenation of the nation.
